RECAP: Rime & Toper “Snap Back – Dangerous Drawings About NY” Opening at Klughaus Gallery NY

Last Saturday, we had our anniversary show at Klughaus Gallery featuring RIME & TOPER.  This was our final show at the 47 Monroe space before we move to a new location in 2013!  We will definitely miss this place.  The title of the show, “Snap Back – Dangerous Drawings About NY” lived up to it’s name as the Fire Department & NYPD showed up because there were so many people that came to see the show.  A catalog of the remaining pieces is available on our website: http://./images/flyers/klughaus_rime_toper_catalog.pdf

Special thanks to our sponsor Beer Right Now!

The show is up through Jan. 1, 2013.  We are open Thurs & Fri from 1-7pm and Sat & Sun from 12-6pm (and any other day or time by appointment.)

Rime Story at Klughaus Gallery

Story about the painting by RIME above:

“Teenagers on a pigeon infested rooftop painting with a twin brother lookout on the street level. Lookout all decked out in a flashy white track suit looking as if he’s slinging on the block. Cops roll up interrogating and notice his eyes stray to the roof. Laying across a few inch spread of pigeon shit you further flatten to avoid the maglite shine. New Yankee cap has been officially violated. Hold tight but disgusted until they bounce. No desire to finish, just the urge to strip to minimum, get home and disinfect.”

We leave you with this Converse Wall to Wall video featuring Jersey Joe:

Vote “Paynt Boyz” to become a new web series for Thing X/Adult Swim

With nothing but the wonder of the Samsung Galaxy Note® II and their pitiful imaginations, Thing X writers shot four web series pilots.  Now YOU help choose the one that will be made into a series!

You might recognize some of the locations from the pilot for the “Paynt Boyz” web series.  This one was obviously our vote…

Klughaus x The Seventh Letter Trucks in Miami for Art Basel 2012

Klughaus Gallery was in Miami for Art Basel showcasing some of the top graffiti artists on our fleet of Klughaus trucks.  The artists who were a part of this project included: RIME MSK, TOPER, OBLVN, GOREY, DCEVE SMART, VOR DBI, STAE2, ALOY MSK, KAPUT VTS, LARGE VTS, ANTHONY LISTER, WITNES/TYKE, GREVE and last but not least an OIL (RIP) tribute by JUNE, DZEE and friends.  Throughout the event, live music was provided by MR. GREEN and MECA on the drums on top of the trucks!

The concept of this Klughaus project was to showcase the true nature of “graffiti.”  Graffiti writers dedicate a lot of time and effort into their work while not expecting any monetary rewards.   There is also no guarantee how long the work will last (sometimes gone within hours.)   With the forced cycles of graffiti in this project, every one of the artists painted with the mindset that their artwork would be gone within 24 hours (and running less time the longer it took them to paint.)  This forced a “purist” mentality upon the artists but it did not stop any of the artists from producing top-notch quality work!

The mobile nature of these trucks allowed us to bring the artwork to life while rolling down the main streets of Wynwood and then over to Miami Beach (where most of the artwork was contained inside of galleries.) This “Out-of-the-box-truck” approach definitely turned heads when we paraded down NW 2nd Street in Wynwood Saturday night (Teen Wolf style) with drummers & a bunch of people on top of a freshly painted truck by RIME & TOPER.  Miami police eventually shut us down but it was fun while it lasted!  Stay tuned for a video of the project but  in the mean time, check out some of the photos below:

Tom Gould for Nike AF1

Proud to see one of our artists, the talented Tom Gould from New Zealand featured in this video for Nike:

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Air Force 1 sneaker, Nike has joined forces with some of the biggest names in music, art and fashion, for its ‘The Ones’ digital campaign.

Nike collaborates with New Zealand photographer Tom Gould for the Air Force 1 30th Anniversary. Watch as Gould takes us on his own journey through the New Zealand scene, walking us through his roots in graffiti art and Hip Hop culture through to his own personal connection with the Air Force 1 sneaker. Beautifully shot and with an inspiring story to match, watch this to catch a glimpse of his life behind the lens.

Klughaus New York Trucks in Miami this week

Klughaus Gallery is making its debut in Miami this week representing for New York!  Look out for several of our box trucks rolling around the city featuring pieces by some of the nation’s top graffiti artists including RIME, TOPER, DCEVE, WANE, SP, CES, OBLVN, STAE2, GOREY and more…

The golden era of graffiti was founded on the mobile canvases of subway cars in New York City. Unfortunately, not all of us were old enough to witness the rolling stock of vibrant colors coming to life as the art-covered trains rattled through the city in the 70s and 80s. Today, there is still a thriving sub-culture of dedicated “clean train” painters but their artwork is often cleaned immediately and rarely exposed to the public. This week in Miami, Klughaus is looking to bring back the concept of these urban, rolling canvases with our mobile installation. As the conventional Art Basel exhibits take place indoors, we’ll be permeating the streets of Miami with our live art and rotating canvases. Some of our trucks will be equipped with a sound system and we’ll also be stationed near various events and walls in progress.

On Saturday, Dec 8th, RIME and TOPER will be painting one of the trucks live at a to-be-determined location in Wynwood as Mr. Green from “Live From The Streets” makes an epside/live beats onsite.

To stay up to date on our locations throughout the festival (Dec 6 – Dec 9), be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook as we broadcast our movement throughout the long weekend. (@klughaus)
