Been so busy getting everything together for this upcoming show that we forgot to throw it on our own blog! Last year, we noticed that a bunch of the graffiti covered delivery trucks had disappeared from Forsyth street right by the base of the Manhattan Bridge. It turns out that there was police crackdown on the unsanitary practices including food vendors who would “pee in a bag and throw it out on the street and never clean it up.” I guess the city is now taking it a step further in trying to make the area a lot nicer for the community. (Personally, I love the gritty/grimey aspects of Chinatown) Below are some proposed renderings for the re-vamp of the base of the Manhattan Bridge to be known as Fo
We’ve been pretty busy over the last week and didn’t even get a chance to post up some re-cap photos from the SNOWBLIND opening last Friday! Another packed and successful night to say the least. I’d like to thank the folks over at Making Deals Zine and Ray Mock (Carnage Zine) for putting together a wonderful show. We were actually planning on getting a snow machine for the event (maybe next time.) Without further adieu, here are some of the photos: Special thanks to Beerlao for keeping us refreshed throughout the evening: That cold steel (photo by Alexander Richter) *SOLD Martha Cooper doing w
“A new breed of crime-fighter now stalks the urban landscape: the anti-graffiti vigilante. These dedicated blight-warriors stop at nothing to rid their neighborhoods and cities of street art, stickers, tags, and posters. Yet several of these vigilantes have become the very menace they set out to eliminate. In their relentless attempt to stamp out graffiti, they have turned to illegally and destructively painting other people’s property. VIGILANTE VIGILANTE is the story of two filmmakers who set out to expose these mysterious characters and discover a battle of expression that stretches from th
With SNOWBLIND, Klughaus Gallery, in conjunction with Carnage and Making Deals Zine, is proud to present a group of artists who have captured the gritty pleasures of the winter season. Photographs from renowned urban documentarian Martha Cooper and Carnage zine creator Ray Mock show slush, sludge, and frozen faces contrasted with empty, peaceful city streets and the blinding white of last night’s snowfall. The show also features clever, snow-inspired artwork and photography from Jesse Edwards, Mike P, Alexander Richter, Ian Reid, Steven Siegel, Michael Fales, Oscar Arriola, Graham Shimberg and
We are proud to see Jesse Edwards as a contributor to the “Universe of Desire” exhibit at the Museum of Sex (NYC.) There is also an exhibit at the museum called “F*ck Art” that runs through June. Below are some shots from the opening party last night (just in time for Valentine’s Day.) Ceramic Blackberries and iPhones with oil paintings by Jesse Edwards: On the third floor of the museum, LUSH easily stole the show (guest starring adult actress Andy San Dimas.) A little disappointed that some others didn’t put in more effort into this show given this opportunity. You had to sign this disclaimer
Jesse Edwards needs no introduction on our blog. His show “Dialogue of the Streets” will be exhibited at Klughaus Gallery through February 12 (despite it saying February 1st on the flyer.) Judy Rifka Paul H-O (Gallery Beat is the original “Brush Strokes” w/ Norman Vename. haha)
